{"id":229,"date":"2012-04-21T09:50:47","date_gmt":"2012-04-21T09:50:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/truthlifelight.wordpress.com\/?p=229"},"modified":"2022-04-05T12:00:02","modified_gmt":"2022-04-05T12:00:02","slug":"our-traditions-versus-gods-word","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sunesishq.com\/notes\/our-traditions-versus-gods-word\/","title":{"rendered":"Our traditions versus God\u2019s Word"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;\"><span style=\"color:#1f497d;\">Traditions and customs of men&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"color:#333333;\"><strong>in general<\/strong>&nbsp;have sometimes had adverse effects on the efficacy of the word of God in the lives of some of God&#8217;s lovely children. This is proven by Jesus&#8217; words. I am especially reminded by a STRONG remark our Lord made to religious leaders who asked him:<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;margin-left:18pt;\"><span style=\"color:#333333;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;\">Matt 15:2\u2014Why do thy disciples transgress the&nbsp;<span style=\"background-color:yellow;\">tradition<\/span>&nbsp;of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;\"><span style=\"color:#1f497d;\">Jesus&#8217; response was also to throw a revealing question to them:<\/span><span style=\"color:#333333;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;margin-left:22pt;\"><span style=\"color:#333333;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;\">Matt 15 3\u2014But he answered and said unto them,&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"color:red;\"><span style=\"font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;\">Why do ye also&nbsp;<strong>transgress the commandment of God by your<\/strong><\/span><strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;background-color:yellow;\">tradition<\/span><\/strong>?<\/span><span style=\"color:#333333;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"color:#1f497d;\"><span style=\"font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;\">WOW<\/span>!<span style=\"font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;\"> It is possible to transgress God&#8217;s word by our tradition. Following this, the Lord made this astonishing observation which I think many times as creatures of habit we forget or simply refuse to consider the implicatons. He said:<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:#333333;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;margin-left:22pt;\"><span style=\"font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;\"><span style=\"color:green;text-decoration:underline;\">Mat_15:6<\/span><span style=\"color:#333333;\">&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"color:red;\">\u2026<\/span><span style=\"color:#333333;\">&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"color:red;\">Thus have&nbsp;<\/span><strong><span style=\"color:#1f497d;\">ye<\/span><span style=\"color:#333333;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color:red;\"><strong>made the commandment of God of none effect by your&nbsp;<span style=\"background-color:yellow;\">tradition<\/span><\/strong>.<\/span><span style=\"color:#333333;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"color:#1f497d;\"><span style=\"font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;\">We all know that God&#8217;s word or his commandments are supreme and never comes back to him void but in this instance Jesus says the religious leaders he was speaking to had made God&#8217;s word in their life of&nbsp;<strong>non effect&nbsp;<\/strong>because of their traditions.&nbsp;Our choices greatly impact the efficacy of God&#8217;s word in our lives especially what we choose to believe and the foundation upon which those choices were made\u2014God&#8217;s word or human traditions. This is a sobering thought. Of course we have many good and moral traditions we should treasure but we also have some that have the appearance of good but are not <\/span>necessarily<span style=\"font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;\"> good like what the religious leaders of Jesus day were practicing in Matt 15. These religious folks too could have enjoyed the blessing of God&#8217;s Word but their traditions kept them from it<\/span>. Let<span style=\"font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;\"> us all endeavor to respect and honor the Word of God as the sole foundation and motivation for all our decision making.
