Culture shifts<\/h1>\n

We have already\u00a0established\u00a0that culture is a result of persistent cultivation of the soul i.e. mind will, emotions and intellect.\u00a0But how does one go about this cultivation of the soul? Again I do not have all the answers but here are a few tools that human civilization have used i.e. the use of hard and soft power. But lets slow down a bit.<\/p>\n

In every farming activity, there is the need for three basic ingredients:<\/p>\n

1. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0soil,<\/p>\n

2. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0farming implements and<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 seeds to be sown<\/p>\n

We have already established that the soul<\/span> (i.e. the mind, will, emotions and intellect) is the soil<\/span> to be cultivated.<\/p>\n

The seeds<\/span> to be sown is knowledge<\/em><\/span>. It could be ideas, facts, thoughts or simply values.<\/p>\n

That leaves us with the second component\u2014the farming implements to begin the cultura anima. \u00a0There are many farming implements for the cultivation of the soul but this post will focus on two.<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. the media\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n
  2. codes of ethics & conduct<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    MEDIA<\/h1>\n

    The MEDIA<\/strong> includes both print and electronic media. Souls can be farmed or cultivated through what is shown and patronized on television, what is heard on radio, what is read via print or electronic media or what we keep hearing authority figures saying to us repeatedly. This is more soft power-ish. It is not necessarily a\u00a0forceful\u00a0regulatory tool for forming behavior.<\/p>\n

    CODES OF ETHICS & CONDUCT<\/h1>\n

    Another tool that has been used to shape behavior in organizations is is the CODE OF ETHICS<\/strong> or the CODE OF CONDUCT<\/strong>. A national\u00a0constitution\u00a0of basic law of the land falls loosely under this category. This is more hard-power-ish because refusing to adhere to the CODE has punitive\u00a0repercussions. Inbuilt in such a system are usually mechanisms to punish departure from compliance.<\/p>\n

    These tools aim to cultivate new mindsets that will hopefully lead to the formation of new cultural paradigms in the work place, family or nation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
