{"id":441,"date":"2012-07-23T15:00:49","date_gmt":"2012-07-23T15:00:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/truthlifelight.wordpress.com\/?p=441"},"modified":"2022-04-05T11:57:55","modified_gmt":"2022-04-05T11:57:55","slug":"judging-artistic-expressions-rightly","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sunesishq.com\/notes\/judging-artistic-expressions-rightly\/","title":{"rendered":"Judging artistic expressions rightly"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"margin-left:28pt;\"><span style=\"font-family:Corbel;font-size:12pt;\"><span style=\"color:teal;\">2Co 5:16<\/span><span style=\"color:#333333;\">\u00a0 Wherefore henceforth know we\u00a0<span style=\"background-color:yellow;\">no man after the flesh<\/span>: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color:gray;\"><em>him<\/em><\/span><span style=\"color:#333333;\">\u00a0no more.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"font-family:Corbel;font-size:12pt;\"><span style=\"color:black;\">Music like all arts are birthed the same way babies are birthed\u2014first\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration:underline;\">conception<\/span>\u00a0and then birthing (recording and realease). The composition of music\/movies\/books\/novels begins with the\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration:underline;\">conception<\/span>\u00a0of an idea or thought in the mind\/womb (of its composer, publisher, creator). This is sometimes referred to as\u00a0<strong>inspiration<\/strong>. The important question for us the consumers is who planted that thought or idea in the mind (womb) of the composer\u2014God or Satan.<\/span><span style=\"color:#333333;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"font-family:Corbel;font-size:12pt;\"><span style=\"color:black;\">Some erroneously believe that lyrics or script alone make music, movies, books, novels, magazines secular or not\u2014i.e. whether it contain religious Jargons or not. To some, when a song or movie does not contain the word &#8216;Jesus&#8217; it is secular. This is an unbiblical way of discerning art based solely on sensory perception. There are songs, movies, books, novels etc.\u00a0 that have no religious Jargon in them but are inspired by God because the theme or message it carries is a scriptural one. In like manner, there are\u00a0songs, movies, books, novels etc.\u00a0that contain all the right religious Jargon but have no power in them because they were not inspired by God but were produced solely for commercial, selfish or other reason. In 2 Cor 5:16, we learn that we are NOT supposed to know, discern or judge each other\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color:red;text-decoration:underline;\">after the flesh.<\/span><span style=\"color:black;\">\u00a0Likewise we must not know, discern or judge\u00a0 music, movies, books or other artistic expressions\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color:red;text-decoration:underline;\">after the flesh<\/span><span style=\"color:black;\">\u00a0but rather\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color:#3366ff;text-decoration:underline;\">after the spirit<\/span><span style=\"color:black;\">. Ask yourself, what is the spirit of this song and what is it promoting? Christ and his values or the values of darkness?<\/span><span style=\"color:#333333;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"font-family:Corbel;font-size:12pt;\"><span style=\"color:black;\">The word secular is\u00a0<strong>never\u00a0<\/strong>used in scripture and for good reason. It is because this word means &#8216;without God&#8217; and there is nothing in this Universe that exists apart from God and His Word (Hebrews 1:3). Everything is upheld by God&#8217;s Word. God is omniscient, omnipotent and\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration:underline;\">omnipresent<\/span>\u00a0even in hell (Psalm 139:8). There is nothing that is secular BUT there are artistic expressions (songs, movies, books, novels, arts etc) that are\u00a0<strong>not<\/strong>\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration:underline;\">inspired<\/span>\u00a0by God. How then do we know whether a particular brand of music or art is inspired by God or not?<\/span><span style=\"color:#333333;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"font-family:Corbel;font-size:12pt;\"><span style=\"color:black;\">We know this the same way we know when a particular sermon or person is inspired by God or not. We know:<\/span><span style=\"color:#333333;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<div style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"font-family:Corbel;font-size:12pt;\"><span style=\"color:black;\">by the prompting of the Spirit of God in us<\/span><span style=\"color:#333333;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"font-family:Corbel;font-size:12pt;\"><span style=\"color:black;\">by the\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration:underline;\">fruit<\/span>\u00a0of that art<\/span><span style=\"color:#333333;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"font-family:Corbel;font-size:12pt;\"><span style=\"color:black;\">when the contents or theme of that art promote the fruit of the spirit or not (Gal 5:22-23)<\/span><span style=\"color:#333333;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"font-family:Corbel;font-size:12pt;\"><span style=\"color:black;\">These 3 steps are easier than we think. For example when Sinach or your favourite musician sings, how do you feel? Something inside you knows it&#8217;s of God plus the fruit of the music is peace, love, miracles and prophecies of God. Because she is inspired by God, your whole being is impacted by her words and art. It is the same vice versa. We already know how to discern. We must simply exercise these spiritual muscles more.<\/span><span style=\"color:#333333;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"font-family:Corbel;font-size:12pt;\"><span style=\"color:black;\">Anything that is preached, taught, filmed or composed as music\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"text-decoration:underline;\"><span style=\"color:#333333;\">that\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color:red;\">runs contrary<\/span><span style=\"color:#333333;\">\u00a0to NT scripture<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black;\">\u00a0and promotes the works of the flesh (Gal 5: 19-21) is not inspired by God even if it contains Christian words. Conversely\u00a0anything that is preached, taught, filmed or composed as music\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"text-decoration:underline;\"><span style=\"color:#333333;\">that\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color:red;\">promotes\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color:#333333;\">the spirit of the Word of God<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black;\">\u00a0and the fruit of the Spirit\u00a0(Gal 5:22-23)\u00a0is inspired by God even if it does not contain Christian jargons because God can speak through and use\u00a0<strong>all\u00a0<\/strong>creation (Psalm 19, Rom 1:20) including the heavens (sun, moon and stars), donkeys etc.<\/span><span style=\"color:#333333;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"font-family:Corbel;font-size:12pt;\"><span style=\"color:black;\">Some may consider Tyler Perry&#8217;s movies as secular because it may not contain many Christian jargons but this would be a wrong judgement because\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color:#333333;text-decoration:underline;\">the theme<\/span><span style=\"color:black;\">\u00a0that his movies teach his audiences does not contradict the Word of God. Rather they promote the spirit of scripture. On the other hand, if the theme of a song or movie promotes sexual impropriety, violence, disobedience, hate, fear and other works of the flesh, then this theme clearly runs contrary to scripture hence it cannot be inspired by God. Let us all endeavor to develop our spiritual senses and discern things after the spirit and not merely from a fleshly or sensory perception level.<\/span><span style=\"color:#333333;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:28pt;\"><span style=\"font-family:Corbel;font-size:12pt;\"><span style=\"color:teal;\">2Co 5:16<\/span><span style=\"color:#333333;\">\u00a0 Wherefore henceforth know we\u00a0<span style=\"background-color:yellow;\">no man<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"background-color:yellow;text-decoration:underline;\">after the flesh<\/span>: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color:gray;\"><em>him<\/em><\/span><span style=\"color:#333333;\">\u00a0no more.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#333333;font-family:Corbel;font-size:12pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>2Co 5:16\u00a0 Wherefore henceforth know we\u00a0no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we\u00a0him\u00a0no more.&hellip;
