The Oldest Method of Formation
Jesus did not run an enrolment campaign. He spent three years with twelve men — teaching them, praying before them, letting them watch how He lived, answering when they asked, "Lord, teach us to pray." Instruction, observation, modelling, correction: formation by proximity. Paul carried the same pattern into the nations — "my little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you" (Galatians 4:19).
The Paul Leadership Institute is that method — formalised for our day.
What PLI Forms
PLI is holistic by design. It does not train a skill; it shapes a person — character, calling, conviction, and Christ-centred maturity — so that whatever sphere a leader occupies (business, governance, society, ministry), the leader carries weight the position did not give and cannot take away.
Every activity of the Sunesis Learning Initiative ultimately feeds into this work. This is the broadest and most holistic of the three streams because it addresses the formation of the person before the exercise of any particular assignment.
PLI shapes the leader, not just the leadership.
How Formation Happens
- Sunesis Seminars — private classroom seminars, delivered on-site and online in the manner of executive education
- Mentorship and modelling — sustained, personal, between structured gatherings
- Doctrinal instruction — rooted in twenty-five years of formation under the apostolic ministry of Rev. Dr. Chris Oyakhilome
Delivery is hybrid — because formation follows relationship, not geography.
The Formation Pathway
Structured formation at PLI follows a three-year pathway — Foundations, Character & Practice, and Commissioning — after the pattern of the Master, who gave His twelve three years of His life. The pathway is bounded; the fellowship is not. Those formed here remain in relationship with the house for life.
The Pathway In
Formation has always begun with an invitation — Jesus prayed all night, then called His own by name. In that spirit, participants ordinarily enter PLI by nomination: someone within the Sunesis community brings you in. Upon nomination and acceptance, a full application follows. If no one has nominated you but this formation speaks to you, you are welcome to express interest directly — the house is always receiving.
