Mandate Statement
Sunesis Learning Initiative is the institutional platform through which Pastor Dr. Solomon Appiah's leadership capacity — formed across ministry, governance reform, and international policy engagement — is systematised, codified, and deployed.
The work predates the institution. SLI was formally institutionalised in 2019 to give structure to what had until then operated through personal engagement: to convert proven leadership patterns into frameworks others can carry.
Pastor Dr. Appiah entered ministry early, under Pastor Ernest McBride in the United States, and it ran alongside two decades of professional work in governance and international policy — the Africa Progress Panel Secretariat under Kofi Annan in Geneva, the Natural Resources Governance Institute, statutory service on the Ghana Prisons Service Council by presidential appointment, and graduate faculty at Wisconsin International University College, Ghana. Through those years ministry was the secondary vocation. That order has since reversed. Pastoral and apostolic work is now the primary calling; governance engagement continues selectively, and often confidentially. Sunesis Learning Initiative is the institutional form that convergence takes.
SLI operates under the spiritual covering of Rev. Dr. Chris Oyakhilome, under whose ministry Pastor Dr. Appiah has been formed since 2002, and through whose International School of Ministry he serves pastors across multiple continents.
The mission is the formation of leaders with analytical capacity, strategic clarity, and implementable frameworks — translating principle into durable institutional systems.
Sunesis Methodology
What Sunesis Represents
Sunesis (σύνεσις) denotes Spirit-given understanding: the capacity to gather scattered data—principle, context, and consequence—and bind it into one coherent whole. It is not native intelligence, but the judicative faculty of the renewed mind, producing the ability to discern what is true, what is good, and what the right action is in a concrete situation. In SLI's usage, Sunesis is a doctrine-governed method for resolving governance and leadership problems that require both technical competence and moral clarity.
The framework equips leaders to synthesise insight across governance, economics, culture, and human development into strategies that produce durable institutional change.
